Meet the Chiropractors

Dr. Kurt Schichtl and Dr. Karen Carpenter are chiropractors who have been serving Emmaus and the surrounding communities in Pennsylvania for the last 33 years.

Our doctors use chiropractic care to improve the health and wellness in all areas of patients' lives, whether they are having problems with back pain or neck pain, or want to start feeling better when they wake up in the morning.  The doctors at First Choice Chiropractic take a 'whole person' approach in chiropractic care, which means looking for the underlying causes of disease, discomfort, and pain, as opposed to just treating the symptoms. Many seemingly unrelated symptoms often arise from imbalances in the spinal column, and our doctors will be able to determine the root of the pain and create a personalized chiropractic and wellness plan to suit each patient's individual needs. Originally from Clear Lake, Iowa, Dr. Schichtl has been serving patients in the Lehigh Valley for over 33 years. He is the co-founder with his wife, Dr. Carpenter, of First Choice Chiropractic Neurology & Rehabilitation in Emmaus, PA.

Dr. Schichtl holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology after studying at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Arizona State University. He graduated with research honors from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1992,  receiving his Doctorate of Chiropractic degree, and began his chiropractic career at Lake Zurich Family Chiropractic & Sports Injury Center in Lake Zurich, Illinois, before moving to the Lehigh Valley. He played an instrumental part in the start-up of several area chiropractic offices in Bethlehem and Coopersburg before founding First Choice Chiropractic Neurology & Rehabilitation in 1998.

Dr. Schichtl's postgraduate studies are extensive and include certification in Chiropractic Treatment of Spinal Trauma, Certification in use of the Interactive Metronome, and a Board Certification in Chiropractic Neurology.

The doctor has taken numerous postgraduate hours in the field of Sports Injury prevention, Spinal Rehabilitation, Spinal Decompression for the treatment of disc injuries, neuropathy, SoftWave therapy, cold laser treatment, whiplash, ADD/ADHD, Chiropractic Biophysics, Petitbon, and low-force adjusting techniques.

He has a passion for treating people and enjoys teaching patients how to live healthier pain pain-free lives.

When he is not working, he enjoys spending his free time with his family, reading, volunteering in his community, and playing golf.

Dr. Carpenter is a proud native of Lower Bucks County and has been devoted to caring for patients in the Lehigh Valley for over 34 years.

She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from West Virginia University, where she was a Division I athlete in both women's track and cross-country for four years. Dr. Carpenter graduated Magna Cum Laude with research honors from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1992, where she received her Doctorate of Chiropractic degree.

Her postgraduate education is extensive and includes advanced certifications in Functional Medicine, Nutrition, Rehabilitation, Spinal Decompression, and a Board Certification in Chiropractic Neurology.

Outside the office, she enjoys time with her family, reading, working out, and exploring the role of nutrition in health. She remains an avid runner, having competed in triathlons, five marathons, and twice in the Boston Marathon.

Dr. Carpenter is committed to helping patients achieve lasting relief and long-term wellness through a holistic, whole-person approach to chiropractic care.
